Our inaugural hike along the southern portions of the Israel National Trail was a resounding success.
First, a large German-speaking group joined us for this journey into the biblical desert. A week later, 17 guests joined our international group, including 14 hikers from the Netherlands, two from the United States and one from Canada.
To say it was an experience like no other would be an understatement.
For seven days, we trekked, climbed and experienced the wonder of the Negev together, all the while engaging in amazing fellowship, especially around the evening campfire.
It was a special time for all of us, and a reminder that to truly know the Land of Israel, one must walk it. After all, that's precisely how God told Abraham to get to know the land He was gifting to the future nation of Israel: "Arise, walk about the land through its length and breadth; for I will give it to you." (Genesis 13:17)
Below is a selection of photos from what we intend to be the first of an annual tradition. If you'd like to join us next year, check the information at the bottom of this post.
After a long and tiring, but very satisfying journey.
Settling in for our campfire, a warm meal and some much-needed sleep.
Water in a dry and thirsty land.
Up and over!
Food never tastes better than after hiking 13 miles through the desert.
Wonder who has walked these trails before us?
Taking time to learn about this incredible landscape and its history.
What a view!
Our next international/English-language hike is tentatively scheduled for December 11-18, 2019.
