Shocking Political Ad Causes Stir

“This time don’t vote for politicians who will give you the finger in return,” is the message on the outrageous billboard. The politicians pictured are Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Blue and White faction leaders Benny Gantz and Yair Lapid, Labor Party head Avi Gabbay and far-left Meretz leader Tamar Zandberg.

Promoting the billboards is the political party Yashar, or “Direct.” They are calling for citizens to be given the right to vote via their smartphones, which the party says would force politicians to pay more attention to what the people really want, because practically everyone would vote if they could do so in such a quick and convenient manner.

The party put up hundreds of the controversial signs in the most populated centers of the country, as well as along busy highways and junctions. “The ‘middle finger’ campaign is making waves throughout the country,” a Yashar spokeswoman said. “The public is responding to it, because we all know this is the truth. The politicians don’t care about us... Most of us don’t have who to vote for.”

Recent polls show that the Yashar party will not even come close to passing the 3.25 percent electoral threshhold when Israelis go to the polls on April 9.
