While the media showed the images of the fires on the Carmel two weeks ago, many Israelis decided to not just sit still but take action by helping the people who lost their homes. Over 10,000 people contacted "Lev Echad" operation center in Jerusalem requesting to volunteer and help the people living in the Carmel. “What you do for yourself goes with you to the grave. What you do for others stays forever” (anonymous). Eli Weissbart, spokesman of “Lev Echad,” quotes this while trying to explain why so many people wanted to volunteer and help.
