Prime Minister Ehud Olmert toured military posts in Galilee, accompanied by Defense Minister Amir Peretz and Israel Defense Forces Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Dan Halutz.

Olmert met with junior officers at the military posts who fought in the war in Lebanon and received a summary of the current situation at the northern border.

Prior to the war, Hizballah posts were 15 meters from the border and Hizballah was able to extend its hand inside Israel. From these posts two IDF soldiers were kidnapped. Hizballah no longer has this freedom.

During the visit the Prime Minister said that the IDF learned from their mistakes, were taking steps to correct them so that when the time comes they will be able to once again defend Israel’s borders. Olmert promised, “What once was will never be again.”

Meanwhile Peretz gave a lecture at the Tel Aviv University stating that Hizballah is busy rehabilitating through smuggling weapons with the help of Syria and Iran. Peretz accused Syria, Iran and Hizballah of trying to appeal to the Lebanese government of Fouad Siniora.
