Gaza operation continues

Operation “Autumn Clouds” is continuing in the northern Gaza Strip as forces enter their sixth day of continuous operations against terror infrastructure and Kassam launching capabilities into the city of Sderot and the communities of the western Negev.

Palestinian sources are reporting from inside the Strip that the death toll has risen to 50 and the number of wounded has reached 250 as Israel Defense Forces continue to clash with terrorists and continue to round up suspects and bring them in for interrogation.

In one instance, IDF forces struck a Kassam launching squad in the refugee camp of Jebalya as they were returning to the launching site in order to collect their launchers. IDF sources say that this is a new method adopted by the IDF where the forces ambush areas which were used to launch rockets into Israel.

But despite the continuing operation, Kassam rockets still manage to be launched into Israel. Since Sunday afternoon 13 rockets landed in or near communities in the western Negev, causing only minor damage and injuring one man lightly.

In addition to the military operation, and despite continuous terror threats on the crossings, Israel has also begun bringing humanitarian aid into Gaza as 185 truckloads of food, medical supplies, basic commodities and raw materials were transferred to the Gaza Strip through the Karni crossing yesterday. In addition, 400,000 liters of diesel fuel, 90,000 liters of gasoline and 175 tons of natural gas went through the Nahal Oz fuel terminal.

In other security activities, Israeli security forces are continuing to target high ranking terrorists in the West Bank as Ta'er Ahmed Mahmad Hassan, a senior commander of the Islamic Jihad terror organization in Bethlehem, was killed in a joint IDF, ISA and Special Police Force operation in the city on Friday.

Ta'er, 27, a wanted senior terrorist since 2001, was involved in vast terrorist activity in recent years and in particular in the dispatching of various terror attacks, such as shooting attacks at the Jerusalem Jewish neighborhood of Gilo and an attempt to bomb a vehicle laden with explosives in the area of the Tunnel Road, which connects Jerusalem and the Etzion Bloc.

In addition, Ta'er was involved in the recruiting of suicide bombers, procurement of weaponry and planning of future terror attacks. During the operation, Palestinians opened fire at the forces. In ensuing exchanges of fire, two wanted Tanzim operatives who were involved in recent terrorist activity were hit.
