Esther Pollard: Olmert ignoring Jonathan

Monday, November 13, 2006 |  by Staff Writer

Prior to Prime Minister Ehud Olmert’s meeting with US President George W. Bush in Washington, Esther Pollard pleaded with Bush for the pardoning of her husband, Jonathan Pollard, a convicted spy for Israel.

Esther Pollard said that while the United States is ready to pardon her husband, the prime minister is ignoring her husband’s case.

“Olmert doesn’t even want to raise the issue in his meeting with Bush,” Esther Pollard said.

Jonathan Pollard has been serving his life sentence for 21 years, since the 1980s when convicted of stealing classified documents “for an ally.” The full contents of the documents have yet to be released, but Pollard was convicted of providing Israel with the names of American agents in the Soviet Union.
