Jewish lawyers and jurists meet in Budapest

More than 250 Jewish lawyers and jurists will meet in Budapest, Hungary over the weekend for the “Remember Budapest,” conference.

The conference was initiated by the International Organization of Jewish Lawyers and Jurists headed by Alex Hartman and Vice President of the organization Irit Cohen. It holds international conferences in European cities to commemorate Jewish lawyers and jurists who perished in the Holocaust and to mark their contribution to the legal systems of their countries. Conferences have been held in Salonika (Thessaloniki), Berlin and Warsaw.

The 2006 conference to be held in Hungary will commemorate the Jewish lawyers and jurists who perished in Hungary during the Holocaust. Israel will also send a delegation of many respected judges, lawyers and others representing the legal field, including Supreme Court Justice Edna Arbel, former Justice Minister Tommy Lapid and a number of other respected lawyers.
