Karnit Goldwasser, wife of kidnapped soldier Ehud Goldwasser, and Goldwasser’s parents, Shlomo and Miki Goldwasser, visited “10 Downing Street" in London a few days ago for a personal meeting with Cherie Blair, wife of British Prime Minister Tony Blair.

The meeting was also attended by the wife of the Israeli Ambassador in London, Sigalit Hefetz. Cherie Blair heard the family members and immediately responded to their request to assist on behalf of the three kidnapped Israeli soldiers. “I will do all that the wife of a prime minister is able to do,” said Cherie Blair. Karnit Goldwasser suggested that every time that Mrs. Blair will meet with the wife of a foreign leader that she would raise the issue of the kidnapped soldiers and request their assistance. “Cherie Blair was very excited and her eyes really sparkled. She is a mother and she very much identified with us and offered to help us. We felt her warmth that she tried to give us and she came across as a very warm person,” Karnit Goldwasser said.

The Goldwasser family members met with the British Foreign Minister Margaret Beckett in between her meetings with Israeli Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni. At the same time the Goldwasser family participated in public events of the British Jewish community and was interviewed on a number of local media programs.

The families of the 3 kidnapped soldiers are expected to go to the European Parliament in Brussels and meet with European Parliamentarians. They will ask them to pressure the European states to request the release of the soldiers in accordance with UN Resolution 1701.
