The Israeli government condemned the Iranian government for its “shameless initiative” as its Holocaust conference opened on Monday.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry's Institute for Political and International Studies (IPIS) organized a two-day conference drawing 67 foreign researchers from 30 countries.
The Israeli Foreign Ministry said comments made by Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad such as, the ‘Holocaust is a myth’ are completely false and stand in stark contradiction to history.
Additional statements made by the Iranian president for Israel to be wiped off the face of the map should cause the international community to see this as sparking another genocide.
Such positions, which contravene the UN Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide adopted by the General Assembly on December 9th 1948, endanger civilization and demand universal rejection.
“The memory of the Holocaust is essential to the entire international community, and not only to Israel and the Jewish people,” said Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni. “By denying the Holocaust, the president of Iran seeks to create legitimacy for his declared intention to destroy Israel and to spread his extremist doctrine, which contravenes the values of the free world. The world must unite in clear word and deed in order to give true meaning to the words “never again.”
