Peretz: Policy has not changed

Tuesday, December 12, 2006 |  by Staff Writer

Defense Minister Amir Peretz says that “Israel’s ambiguous nuclear policy has not changed.”

“The State of Israel continues to adopt exactly the same policy, and we are doing our job,” Peretz said.

Peretz added that, “nobody should think that with all that is happening we will remain indifferent.”

In regard to statements being made on a possible confrontation with Syria, the Defense Minister said that there are no evaluations showing that the Syrian military plans to start a war. Peretz also said that “on the one hand we must prepare for any threat according to the information we have gathered, but we cannot allow the voices of war to lead to war; sometimes an escalation in the rhetoric can cause an unnecessary war.”
