British Prime Minister Tony Blair visited Israel, meeting with Israeli and Palestinian Authority officials.

On Monday, Blair met with Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas in Ramallah and afterward arrived in Jerusalem for a meeting with Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni and Defense Minister Amir Peretz.

The purpose for his visit was to support Abbas, encouraging him to move forward, overcome Hamas and work to establish an independent Palestinian Authority government. Blair supports Abbas’ decision to call for early elections.

Blair requested from Israel to bolster Abbas; transmit funds from frozen taxes on the condition that it will not be transferred to Hamas control.

Blair visited Israel in September and then declared until his term is complete this coming summer he will concentrate on the conflict in the Middle East and plans to make a number of visits in the area.
