Peretz: I’ll resign if ordered to

Monday, January 01, 2007 |  by Staff Writer
In a meeting with families of soldiers who lost their lives in the recent war in Lebanon, Defense Minister Peretz said that if the Winograd Commission investigating the war finds him personally responsible, he will draw the conclusions and resign.

During the meeting, the parents blasted Peretz for not taking responsibility and resigning. In addition, the parents protested the cover up atmosphere in the IDF and the fact that none of the investigations of the war have so far given any personal recommendations for removal of any top officers.

Peretz responded that if the Winograd Commission will recommend, he will resign immediately. He said that the IDF is currently going through a rough time and he has no intention of intervening in the internal investigations and see heads roll, but to wait until they are over to decide about his course of action.
