Israel Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni clarified Tuesday that despite recent media publications, she is still committed to the roadmap and all its phases and has not given up on the first stage which calls for Palestinians to fight terrorism.

“The roadmap is the anchor for any process. On one hand, the roadmap creates the Palestinian state in mid way, but it establishes stages in order to prevent turning the Palestinian state to a terror state, and this is exactly what I am doing,” Livni said. “I speak with Arab element regarding the security and needs and interests of Israel in every step of the roadmap without letting the Palestinians get away with not executing what is demanded of them or getting everything they want.”

Livni added she did not give up on the first stage of the roadmap. “The roadmap states that during the first stage, the Palestinians must fight terror and take steps which some have been implemented and some have not. I am also obligated that the Palestinian will not turn into a terror state,” she said.

Livni said she is in favor of negotiating with moderate groups who oppose terror.

“Now when I speak with the moderate elements, I want the Palestinians to know that there is one choice in terror, they cannot get anything. I want to strengthen Israel’s interests,” Livni concluded.
