Palestinians caught with knives near Hebron

Border policemen apprehended a Palestinian woman carrying a 10-inch knife near the Cave of the Patriarchs in Hebron on Saturday.

A few hours later, border police arrested two Palestinians traveling together, crossing the checkpoint near the cave with a 12-inch knife. In both cases, the knives were confiscated and the Palestinians were handed over to the police for questioning.

During her interrogation, the woman admitted planning to carry out an attack by stabbing near the site.

Over the last month, the Israeli army began easing restrictions at checkpoints throughout Judea and Samaria, in accordance with Prime Minister Ehud Olmert’s promise to Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas.

The plan called for the removal of 27 roadblocks, and easing restrictions for people and goods passing through checkpoints.

Terror groups have been known to take advantage of such concessions in the past in order to carry out attacks.

“We all hope that these concessions do not result in an attack, which would render the entire plan irrelevant,” one officer said.
