A Palestinian was killed early Wednesday morning by Israeli army fire near the Gaza border security fence.

Three Palestinians were suspected of moving toward the fence, sparking suspicion among troops who opened fire. The soldiers called on the suspects to stop and shot at them after concern was raised the three were planning to carry out an attack.

According to Palestinians, one person was injured and received medical treatment. The other suspect was detained by the military and taken in for questioning.

The Israeli army has boosted its presence in the northern Gaza area as Palestinians have been found to be in possession of explosive devices and other weapons.

Military sources said despite the cease-fire, its units are constantly on high alert, in light of terrorist plans and attempts to carry out attacks.
