Israeli soldiers, serving their country, which is compulsory, spend most of their paycheck on clothing, footwear and cell phone bills.
The average military salary is somewhere between 400 to 600 shekels ($94 to $141) a month and expenses total up to at least 1,000 shekels.
These are the results provided by the Yoter Club in a summary of 2006. The Yoter Club is a program, providing benefits to those serving in the Israeli army. More than 140,000 soldiers hold a Yoter credit card.
The data revealed that 16 percent of soldiers spend their paycheck on clothing and 14 percent of their paycheck is spent on cell phone bills.
Gas expenses are extremely high as soldiers love to engage in a variety of recreational activities. But, as a soldier, they are able to travel for free on public transportation.
Other expenses consuming a soldiers’ paycheck were medicine, cosmetics, groceries and electrical appliances.
