Even the State of Israel can be your friend on My Space now. The Israeli Consulate in New York opened a 'space' for the State of Israel on the My Space website, joining the modern Internet phenomenon.

Israel’s My Space is all about showing the cool side of the country. The photos of teens and celebrities in Israel and cool ocean blues of Tel Aviv all indicate a young, thriving and fun country that many are not exposed to in the news.

The site has link to snippets like Cool Facts about Israel, Scenes from Tel Aviv, Who is Israeli? Israeli rock plays in the background plus links to other Israeli celebrity blogs are included.

David Saranga, consul for media and public affairs at the Consulate General in New York, said that this project is one of a series of new projects intended to reach the younger generation in non-conflict related topics.

Among the first to join Israel’s friend list were official fan clubs of actors George Clooney, Eddy Murphy and Leonardo DiCaprio, and singers Matisyahu and Regina Spektor.

My Space claims 154 million registered members and 300,000 new members daily.
