The pilot of a crop dusting plane was killed on Tuesday morning after his aircraft collided with high voltage cables and made a crash landing into the Jezreel Valley. An emergency call was made, reporting that the plane had lost control and was losing altitude.
Three rescue teams, paramedics from emergency response services and firefighters arrived to the scene, but were unable to resuscitate the pilot.
“It was very hard to see the plane [go down] in the middle of the field,” Fire Chief Micky Levy told Israel Radio. “There was a cloud [of smoke] and a smell.”
Police are investigating the exact cause of the crash with the help of the Aviation Administration. Aviation Administration and Ministry of Environmental Protection teams along with firefighters are working on containing the damage since the pesticides leaking from the plane out into the surrounding fields.
Paramedics reported that chemicals from the plane made rescue efforts more difficult, and some volunteers suffered from dizziness and nausea.
