British millionaire attends own house warming

Leave it up to a British Jewish millionaire to purchase property in Israel and that’s exactly what Cyril Stein did. Stein flew from London last week to attend his own house warming party in an illegal outpost in Samaria.

Settlers in the Givat Harel settlement near Shilo welcomed Stein, 79, as a guest of honor. Stein, co-owner of the Ladbrokes betting and real estate empire, funded the house's construction.

It is not a new phenomenon for Diaspora Jews to fork over tens of thousands of dollars to either purchase homes or fund settler construction projects.

Donors include Yosef Yitzhak Gutnik of Australia and Irvin Moscovich of the US, who are known for having purchased homes in Jerusalem and Hebron.

The Yesha council, an umbrella organization of various municipal councils of Jewish communities in Judea and Samaria, recently launched a campaign encouraging American Jews to buy homes in government-approved construction projects in Judea and Samaria.

Stein's investment, on the other hand, is risky because it is not on government approved land and may be destroyed along with other illegal outposts.

As Stein continues to reside in London, a settler family has purchased his home in Givat Harel and the funds are to be used for further settler construction projects.
