Not all Palestinians are seeking to publicize their cause through violent acts such as terrorist attacks, kidnappings and rocket launchings.
A Palestinian newspaper has begun distribution across Israel to show the “real image of Palestinians,” according to the paper’s editor-in-chief Othman Haj Mohammed. The Palestine Times, a 12-page daily, is the only English-language newspaper in the Palestinian territories. It features business, food, sports, health and the environment in addition to hard news stories.
“My message is simple. I want to show our readers an image of Palestinians as a real, human society with all its needs, with its stories of failure and success, its sad moments and its happy moments,” said Haj Mohammed. “The Palestinians are not only about Fatah and Hamas. They are about culture, arts, social issues and about helping the environment.”
The Palestine Times, which was first published in November, has held off on publishing editorials so as to remain objective. Haj Mohammed describes the publication as a “very moderate, liberal newspaper. In an additional attempt to break down barriers, he is hoping to get Israeli companies to advertise.
