Israeli teen reminds nation about hostage soldiers

An Israeli teenager from the southern town of Beersheba has launched an initiative to remind his countrymen that three of their soldiers are still being held hostage by Islamic foes in Lebanon and the Gaza Strip.

Ilan Spector has called on all Israelis to wear white on May 21st in a show of solidarity with Eldad Regev, Ehud Goldwasser and Gilad Shalit.

Israel National News explained that Spector lost a relative in the First Lebanon War in the early 1980s, and so feels a connection to the abducted soldiers and their grieving families.

The high school student hopes to bring the issue of the three soldiers back into the national spotlight, and force government leaders more concerned with their own political survival to again make securing the release of the captives a top priority.

Shalit was abducted outside the Gaza Strip by Hamas-affiliated terrorists on June 25, 2006. Regev and Goldwasser were taken by Hizballah some two weeks on July 12 while on patrol with their reserve unit along Israel's norther border.
