Israeli police officials on Tuesday expressed concern that the murder of an Arab taxi driver by a recent Jewish immigrant in Tel Aviv a day earlier could lead to a wave of revenge attacks.
The killer, a recent arrival from France, confessed to police that he ordered a taxi on Monday with the intention of murdering the driver, if he turned out to be Arab.
Police Superintendent Nissim Bracha told Army Radio that forces in the Tel Aviv area had been reinforced amid fears of widespread Arab retaliation against their Jewish countrymen.
Israeli Arab Knesset members responded in expected fashion, by blaming the killing on what they called "regular incitement" by right-wing Israelis Jews against he nation's Arabs.
