Israel's embassy in Hanoi last week bankrolled an Israeli-led humanitarian mission to remote jungle areas of Vietnam.
A team of 54 doctors and nurses led by Israeli doctor Rafi Kot headed out in order to provide desperately needed medical care to Vietnamese villagers, some of whom had never even see a doctor before.
Ynet reported that the mission was the brainchild of Israeli Ambassador to Vietnam Efi Ben Matatiyahu, who used the $50,000 earmarked for celebrating Israel's Independence Day to instead fund the aid expedition.
Thousands of children were among those treated, and anyone in need of surgery was evacuated to the nearest city to be operated on free of charge.
The team traveled under the banner "Israel-Vietnam humanitarian mission."
