An Israeli man on Monday used his bare hands to grab and pin down a leopard that had entered his bedroom during the predawn hours.
The wild cat had apparently be stalking and killing domestic animals in the Negev village of Midreshet Sde-Boker for weeks. His chosen prey on the night in question was the family cat of Arthur Damush.
Both animals reportedly entered the bedroom while Damush and his wife were sleeping, immediately startling Arthur from his slumber.
When the leopard moved in for the kill on the smaller cat, Arthur also leapt into action, grabbing the beast by the neck and holding it down until a local Parks Authority ranger arrived some 20 minutes later.
Neighbors later described the fact that Damush was able to overpower the leopard as a "miracle," and the man's children were said to be beside themselves with excitement that their father had captured such a large and dangerous animal with his bare hands.
Both Damush and the leopard were treated for very minor injuries following the scuffle, and the animal was later released into the wild after being fitted with a transmitter.
