Starting in August of this year, the border between southern Israel and the Gaza Strip will be guarded by machines, rather than live Israeli soldiers.
Rafael, Israel's government-owned arms contractor, has developed a remote-controlled border surveillance system that will allow Israel to keep a close eye on the Gaza security fence without putting soldiers' lives in danger.
Israeli soldiers patrolling the Gaza fence are regularly targeted by Palestinian gunfire and roadside bombs.
The robotic surveillance towers are also equipped with automatic weapons to allow them to engage any terrorist threat.
