Netanyahu: Judea-Samaria key to Israel's defense

Withdrawal from Judea and Samaria, the so-called “West Bank,” would again expose Israel to the very real threat of annihilation, warned opposition leader Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday.

Netanyahu was speaking at an event marking the anniversary of the 1967 Six Day War, when Israel liberated Judea and Samaria from Jordanian occupation.

That victory had transformed Israel from a “feeble and fragile country whose existence was questionable, into a state which cannot be defeated,” declared the Likud Party leader in remarks carried by Ynet. “As we are on these mountains, we are unbeatable.”

Which is precisely why, according to Netanyahu, the Arab world is so anxious to remove Israel from every inch of the territories that constitute its biblical heartland.

Netanyahu noted that Israel's conquest of Judea and Samaria, the Golan Heights and the Sinai Peninsula in the Six Day War had actually brought the region closer to peace by convincing the Arab side that it could not destroy the Jewish state.

However, Israel's recent unilateral withdrawals from southern Lebanon and the Gaza Strip, as well as ongoing talk of a pullout from most of Judea and Samaria, has again given hope to the Arabs that their ultimate goal is attainable, warned Netanyahu.
