Gaza-based Hamas terrorists are in possession of the same kind of long-range rockets Hizballah used against Israel last summer, but has yet to fire them on the Jewish state.
That according to Israeli Military Intelligence Maj.-Gen. Amos Yadlin, spoke on Wednesday before the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee.
The Grad-type Katyusha rocket that Hizballah has long employed against Israel has a range of about 12 miles, five miles more than the longest-range Kassam rocket that has been fired from Gaza.
Yadlin was quoted by Israel Radio as further warning that Hamas is trying to smuggle into Gaza more mobile shoulder-launched missiles that have a range of up to 25 miles.
The southern Israel town of Sderot and surrounding communities were hit by 283 rockets from Gaza during the month of May. The longer range rockets Hamas is believed to have would put many more population centers within the field of terrorist rocket fire.
