Iran angered by reaction to anti-Israel declarations

Iran on Thursday slammed the international community for criticizing its stated desire to see Israel annihilated.

In a fiery speech delivered on Sunday, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said that “Allah willing, in the near future we will witness the destruction” of Israel.

The US and European governments immediately voiced harsh objections to the Iranian leader's remarks. Spain in particular said that it would summon the Iranian ambassador in Madrid to file a formal complaint.

Several days later, Spain's ambassador in Tehran was summoned to the Iranian Foreign Ministry and told that his country's reaction to Ahmadinejad's speech was unacceptable, reported Iran's ISNA news agency.
