BBC 'sorry' for calling Jerusalem Israel's capital

The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) publicly apologized this week following complaints over last month's reference to Jerusalem as Israel's capital and “historic soul” by one of its sportscasters.

The exaggerated expression of regret came in response to an angry objection by four England-based Islamic organizations, reported The Jerusalem Post.

In a letter to the organizations, the BBC's head of editorial complaints, Fraser Steel, wrote that the news giant accepts that the international community “does not recognize Jerusalem as Israel's capital,” and very much regrets “the mistake” made by its sports division.

“I'd like to add my apologies for this most regrettable, but I'm sure accidental, factual mistake,” added Steel.
