A new educational program in Israel will bring Jewish and Christian Arab students together in an effort to teach them about each other and themselves.
The initiative will take place at the high school level, and will see the students participate in joint study sessions of the Hebrew Scriptures (Old Testament) and the New Testament, as well as visit synagogues and churches throughout the country.
Organizers told Ynetnews that the goal of the program is two-fold: To give Jewish and Christian youth a better understanding of each other, and to sharpen the students' connection with their own cultural and religious identity.
“Out of our encounter with a different culture and tradition, comes the need to deal with our tradition as well,” explained Nava Tal, one of the teachers behind the initiative.
If the program is a success during the upcoming school year, organizers hope to include Muslim students in the future.
