Israel kills 10 in ramped up Gaza operations

Israeli forces killed 10 Palestinians in separate surgical air strikes and armed clashes throughout the Gaza Strip on Wednesday.

Among those killed were senior Hamas and Islamic Jihad field commanders. The Palestinians claimed at least one child was killed.

Two Israeli soldiers were also wounded during the course of the fighting when a terrorist cell approached their tank in northern Gaza. The soldiers used machine guns mounted on the tank to attack their assailants, but were lightly injured when the Palestinians responded with an anti-tank missile.

Meanwhile, a rocket launched from northern Gaza landed near the southern Israel town of Sderot Wednesday morning, causing no damage or injuries.

Israel has repeatedly warned that the resumption of rocket fire on southern Israel would be met with increasingly severe anti-terrorist military action in Gaza.
