A growing number of African nations are requesting search-and-rescue training by Israeli military experts.
The search-and-rescue units of the Israeli army's Home Front Command have gained widespread acclaim over the past decade for the disproportionate assistance they have provided following disasters in the region.
Teams have been sent to Kenya alone three times in recent years, prompting the government in Nairobi to ask Israel to train its own forces. In response to that request, Israel's Home Front Command held its search-and-rescue training course in English for the first time this year.
Next year, a number of other African nations are expected to send officers to be trained by the Israelis as well.
