A 15-year-old Palestinian Arab boy was shot dead by Israeli soldiers on patrol in the biblical Judean town of Hebron on Tuesday after being spotted with a realistic toy assault rifle.
The Israeli army later released photos of the toy gun, which bore a striking resemblance to the M-16 rifles used by the Israel Defense Forces and many Palestinian terrorists lucky enough to have procured American-made arms.
Military officials said an investigation would be launched into the incident.
Palestinian terror groups regularly recruit and deploy armed operatives in their early teens, knowing that Jewish soldiers will think twice before shooting a child and therefore providing the young terrorist greater opportunity to carry out his or her gruesome task.
