A growing number of Palestinian parents are pulling their children out of summer camps in the Gaza Strip after learning that the Hamas-affiliated instructors are inciting the youngsters to violence and teaching them to use live weapons.
Such camps, which are nothing new in the Palestinian Authority-controlled territories, are where most Palestinian children between the ages of eight and 17 spend their summer vacation.
What seems to be different this year is that in addition to inciting the children to make war on Israel, Hamas is also instilling hatred of the rival Fatah faction, raising fears that the currently subdued internal Palestinian strife is generations from being over.
“The Hamas supervisors are...giving lectures to the children accusing Fatah of collaboration with Israel and betraying the Palestinians. They are also quoting phrases from the Quran that encourage the children to kill the 'traitors,'” one eyewitness told The Jerusalem Post.
Fatah officials blasted Hamas over the report, while ignoring the fact that their own movement has been running similar camps aimed at raising fresh generations of jihadists against Israel and the West for more than a decade.
