Israel treated to morning rocket barrage

Sunday, July 08, 2007 |  by Staff Writer

Palestinian terrorists operating out of the Gaza Strip fired five rockets into southern Israel on Sunday morning.

Four of the rockets landed in open areas, but a fifth slammed into a building belonging to Sapir College in the rocket-battered town of Sderot. No injuries were reported.

The Hamas-allied Islamic Jihad terrorist organization claimed credit for the strike, which came just one day after Israel wrapped up a ground operation in Gaza that left 11 Hamas and Islamic Jihad terrorists dead.

Israeli defense officials have repeatedly stated that the only way to truly curb the rocket threat that has plagued southern Israel for the past six years is to launch a full-scale ground invasion of Gaza, followed by at least a partial re-occupation of the territory that many now question Israel's decision to vacate in 2005.
