Iran's nuclear program continues to move ahead unabated primarily because US President George W. Bush does not fully grasp the immediacy of the threat and remains at least partially undecided on what course of action his administration should take.
That according to leading Iran expert Ilan Berman, who today serves as vice president for policy at the Washington-based American Foreign Policy Council.
The Jerusalem Post quoted Berman as telling a gathering at the Hudson Institute on Tuesday that Israel and the US differ in their assessment of how much time is left to deal with Iran's nuclear program before it's too late.
Both nations believe that 2009 is when Iran will pass the so-called “point of no return,” but whereas Washington feels there is still room for diplomatic maneuvering, many Israeli experts say the time for military intervention has either already come or is rapidly approaching.
