Israeli soldiers last week captured a known Palestinian militant engaging in terrorist activity, but were forced to immediately release the man after it was determined he is on a list of terrorists granted amnesty by Prime Minister Ehud Olmert.
The suspect was apprehended at a checkpoint outside the Samarian town of Nablus after troops manning the post discovered he was smuggling a large quantity of bullets to terrorists based there, reported WorldNetDaily.
Despite the fact that the man's smuggling efforts put him in violation of the amnesty agreement Olmert offered as a goodwill gesture toward Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas, the soldiers were ordered to free him.
The amnesty deal, which was purportedly accepted by a large number of terrorists belonging to Abbas' Fatah movement, required each man to sign a commitment to never return to terrorist activity.
