Arafat doctor confirms PLO chief had HIV

Former Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat's personal physician confirmed at the weekend that his patient had in fact contracted the deadly HIV virus, but insisted that is not what killed the long-time terrorist chief.

Dr. Ashraf al-Kurdi told the Jordanian news website Amman that a lethal injection of poison is what ultimately killed Arafat, but that at some point during his final days someone also injected him with HIV.

Last month, a leading Palestinian terror boss who was close to Arafat told Hizballah's Al Manar television that current Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas had admitted to him that Arafat died of AIDS.

Kurdi has called for the French authorities to conduct an official inquiry into the cause of Arafat's death. The Palestinian icon died in a Paris hospital after being airlifted out of his headquarters in Ramallah.
