Yemenite Jews flee amid Muslim threats

Tuesday, August 14, 2007 |  by Staff Writer

At least 45 Yemenite Jews have fled their homes after being threatened with violence by a local Islamic group believed to have ties to Al Qaeda.

The Saudi newspaper Al Watan reported that the group issued a public threat accusing the Jews in Yemen's Sa'ada county of sowing decay among their Muslim neighbors, and gave them 10 days to leave the area.

The Jews have all moved to a hotel in the nearby town of Sa'ada.

This is not the first time Yemenite Jews have been forced to flee their homes under threat of local Muslim violence.
