A senior member of the Palestinian Legislative Council (PLC) has been convicted by an Israeli court of personally dispatching a suicide bomber that ended up killing an Israeli woman and wounding many other people.

Jamal Tirawi is a member of Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas' Fatah faction, and until his arrest three months ago served as deputy speaker of the PLC, according to Yediot Ahronot.

During his trial is was learned that in March 2002, Tirawi hosted a Palestinian suicide bomber in his home in the Samarian town of Nablus. The bomber then made his way directly from Tirawi's home to a coffee shop in the Israeli coastal city of Tel Aviv, where he murdered Rachel Tcherkhi.

Tirawi was also convicted of recruiting other potential suicide bombers.
