A senior Palestinian security officer thanked the United States in remarks published Tuesday for the military training it provided, which had in turn enabled the Palestinians to so successfully attack Israelis over the past seven years.
“I do not think that the operations of the Palestinian resistance would have been so successful and would have killed more than one thousand Israelis since 2000...without these [American] trainings,” Abu Yousuf, a senior officer in Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas' Force 17 Presidential Guard, told The New York Sun.
Yousuf noted that the wave of Palestinian terror facilitated by Washington was directly responsible for driving Israel out of the Gaza Strip in 2005. Former Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon admitted at the time that Israel could not continue dealing with the security threats in Gaza, and was withdrawing at least partially because of mounting casualties.
Far from taking the candid revelations of Yousuf and other Palestinian officials to heart, the Bush Administration has signed an agreement with the government of Palestinian Prime Minister Salaam Fayad to provide even more training, to further hone the killing skills of the Palestinian forces.
The US State Department insisted that the new training programs will benefit the security of Palestinians and Israelis alike.
