Terrorists scale Gaza security fence

Sunday, August 26, 2007 |  by Staff Writer

Three Palestinian terrorists disguised as Israeli soldiers scaled the Gaza Strip security fence early Saturday morning and launched an assault on a military post in southern Israel.

Israeli army officials said the terrorists used ropes and ladders to climb the fence under cover of dense morning fog. The officials told Israel Radio that the terrorists are becoming more familiar with Israeli defense systems and routines, and said that more infiltrations can be expected in the future.

Two of the terrorists were killed by Israeli forces after opening fire and wounding one soldier at a District Coordination Office just north of the Gaza Strip.

Residents of nearby Israeli village of Netiv Ha'asarah said the incident highlighted their precarious security situation. The village is a target of regular rocket attacks from Gaza.
