Funerals held for Israeli tsunami victims

Sunday, January 02, 2005 |
Three Israelis who were killed when powerful tsunami waves pounded Thailand’s coast one week ago are being buried today in Israel. The two women and one man are being laid to rest in their home communities, all located on Israel’s coastal plane. Another female victim is to be buried on Monday. An El Al flight arrived at Ben Gurion airport early Sunday morning carrying the bodies of the four deceased tourists: Esther Levy (57, down right), Hemda Cohen (53 up right), Zohar Aloni (25 down left) und Sharon Haliel (22 up left). Three other Israelis who were also vacationing in Thailand’s southwest resorts are still missing and presumed dead, although officials warn that their bodies may never be recovered.
