The government of Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas has begun sending security agents to receive high-level training from Russian intelligence agencies, reported Middle East Newsline.
A Palestinian official said his government regards Russian intelligence methods as “more effective than the Americans in stopping Hamas.”
Palestinian Authority forces have long been recipients of CIA and American military training. But the crushing defeat of Abbas' Fatah-dominated security forces by Hamas in Gaza last June was seen by many in the region as a victory for Iranian training over US training.
Moscow is also said to be offering to match US donations of arms and military equipment to the Palestinians.
