IDF to fully integrate female soldiers

Monday, September 17, 2007 |  by Staff Writer

An Israeli army panel has concluded that the military should fully integrate female soldiers into all units, including elite commando units, reported Israel Radio.

If implemented, the recommendations would require the approval of both the defense minister and the Knesset's Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee for the army to exclude female soldiers from certain units.

As part of their right to join any unit in the army, female soldiers would be required to serve a minimum of three years, like their male counterparts.

The panel will submit its recommendations later this week to the general staff.
