Outrage over Abbas appearance in Jerusalem

Monday, January 03, 2005 |

Right wing politicians denounced today’s decision by the Sharon government to allow PLO chairman and Palestinian Authority leadership candidate Mahmoud Abbas to campaign this week in Jerusalem. Authorities would not say how they would react if he attempted to visit the Temple Mount to seek support for next Sunday’s Palestinian election, which police fear could spark major violence between Arabs and Jews. Meanwhile Egypt called today for Israel to pull out of all territory it captured in 1967, including Jerusalem’s walled Old City.
