Dismantling of illegal outpost like civil war

Tuesday, January 04, 2005 |

The IDF’s demolition of an illegal outpost near the Nablus-area settlement of Yitzhar bore the stench of civil war Monday. An IDF conscript defected to the settlers side, entering into fisticuffs with security forces and urging his comrades to follow suit. Another soldier fired a warning shot into the air, as they tried to strip him of his rifle. Some 19 settler activists were arrested by police and about a dozen wounded in scuffles with policemen and soldiers. Settlers were dragged away through the mud, as seen in the picture: a girl is dragged away by border policemen.
