Afghan official fired for extending courtesy to Israeli diplomat

An official at Afghanistan's embassy in Germany has been fired after he invited an Israeli diplomat to attend an event marking his country's independence day in August.

An Afghan Foreign Ministry spokesman told Reuters that the Israeli diplomat received his invitation to the event due to a "technical mistake," and that the employee responsible for that mistake had been replaced.

Even after the removal of Taliban rule, Afghanistan refuses to recognize Israel as a legitimate sovereign nation.
