British FM interacts virtually with Israelis

British Foreign Secretary David Miliband conducted a live webcast on the Blog TV channel of Israel's Tapuz Internet portal on Sunday.

Despite only being in Israel for less than 24 hours, Miliband insisted that he wanted to connect with the Israeli public and answer their question on topics such as the Israeli-Arab peace process, the mounting Iranian threat and Israeli-British relations.

The webcast format allowed Miliband to take questions directly from Israeli Internet surfers which he then answered via a live video stream. It was the first time a major international political figure had used the Internet to interact directly with Israelis.

Miliband is a major proponent of the Internet as the dominant form of "new media" and communication.
