Despite having recently weathered a full-scale war and seven-year terrorist uprising, Israel's tourism industry in 2007 bounced back to the high levels experienced in the late 1990s.
By the end of the year, at least 2.3 million tourists will have visited Israel, a half-million more than came in 2006, reported The Marker.
Tourism was once Israel's major export product, but suffered devastating setbacks when the Palestinians launched their intensified terror campaign in late-2000. The September 11, 2001 attacks on the US and last year's war against Lebanon's Hizballah terrorist militia further weakened the industry.
